Wedding Flowers in Launceston: Expert Tips from Our "Brides & Bubbles" Event

Wedding Flowers in Launceston: Expert Tips from Our "Brides & Bubbles" Event

Planning your dream wedding in Launceston? We’ve got you covered—from your perfect gown to your gorgeous blooms! At our recent Brides & Bubbles event right here in our Launceston boutique, we were thrilled to welcome local florist Abigail from Wildly Abigail to share her expertise on all things wedding flowers.

We host Brides & Bubbles twice a year to give Tasmanian couples a relaxed, champagne-fuelled way to learn about wedding planning from local experts (with exclusive insights you won’t find on Pinterest!). Here are the biggest takeaways from our recent night talking florals:

🌸 1. Know Your Wedding Floral Style

According to Abigail, most florists fall into one of three (unofficial) design styles:

Traditional: Elegant, round bouquets using roses, gypsophila, and timeless blooms. Classic and romantic. Usually a florist with a traditional store front.

Modern: Bold, bright, and sometimes a little edgy—think orchids, dahlias, and punchy colour palettes. Often referred to as "installations" and use a mix of medias with florals, including fruit and vegetables.

Garden-Inspired: Whimsical, seasonal flowers that look freshly gathered from a blooming backyard. Think lots of texture, grasses, and foliage. This style is super popular for couples doing DIY florals.

Pro Tip: Choose a florist whose natural style aligns with your wedding vision—don’t try to force a vibe they don’t usually create!

🌿 2. Go Local & Sustainable (It’s Gorgeous and Green!)

Over 50% of flowers sold in Australia are imported—but not in Abigail’s shop! She focuses on Tasmanian and Australian-grown flowers, cutting down on carbon emissions and reducing waste.

Want to be a sustainable bride? Here's how:

Choose seasonal and locally-grown flowers

Avoid floral foam (it's toxic and non-recyclable)

Reuse ceremony flowers at the reception

Ask your florist to compost or repurpose leftover blooms

💐 3. Stretch Your Wedding Flower Budget

Florals can add serious wow-factor, but they don’t have to break the bank. Here’s how to get maximum beauty for your buck:

Repurpose florals: Ceremony flowers can become reception décor!

Use vases and vessels: Easier to transport and reuse

Pickup from the florist: Abigail recommends sending a family member the day before to collect bouquets and arrangements

Weatherproof your plans: If your wedding is outdoors or in a marquee (especially in a Tasmanian summer!), ask for heat-tolerant blooms and set them up at the last minute

🗓️ 4. Book Early – Florists Fill Fast in Launceston

Thinking you’ll book a florist after you've sorted your venue and gown? Think again!

Abigail shared that good florists can book out over a year in advance, especially in places like Launceston where there are only a handful of wedding florists working in specific styles.

Her advice? Once you’ve found someone you love, secure your date with a deposit and stay flexible with seasonal changes.

🌼 5. Post-Wedding Petals: What to Do With Your Flowers

Want to keep your bouquet forever? Hang it upside down to dry naturally or press a few blooms and frame them.

Bonus ideas:

Create mini posies to give to guests or family the next day

Compost unused flowers (many florists, like Abigail, handle this for you)

Plan for bump-out logistics if you’re doing a DIY or paddock-style wedding
