Wedding Timeline Tips Every Tasmania Couple Should Know

Wedding Timeline Tips Every Tasmania Couple Should Know

Planning a wedding is exciting, but creating a wedding day timeline that actually works can feel overwhelming. From getting ready in the morning through to the final dance, there are countless moving parts to consider.

At our recent Brides & Bubbles event at Honey Fawn Boutique in Launceston, we welcomed Savannah from Weddings by Savannah to share her expert advice on wedding planning, timelines, speeches, and keeping your day running smoothly.

As an experienced Tasmania wedding coordinator, Savannah has helped countless couples navigate their wedding day with confidence. Here are her top wedding timeline tips for engaged couples planning a wedding in Tasmania and beyond.

1. Build Buffer Time Into Your Wedding Day Timeline

One of the most common mistakes couples make is creating a timeline that leaves no room for delays.

Even with the best planning, wedding days rarely run exactly to schedule. Hair and makeup may take longer than expected, travel can be delayed, guests may arrive late, or a special moment may naturally take more time than anticipated.

Savannah recommends building buffer time throughout your wedding day timeline. These small pockets of flexibility help absorb any delays without creating stress later in the day.

A great wedding timeline isn't about packing every minute with activities. It's about creating enough space to enjoy the moments you've spent months planning.

2. Keep Wedding Speeches Short and Meaningful

Wedding speeches are often one of the most memorable parts of a reception, but they can also have a significant impact on your timeline.

Savannah's recommendation is simple:

- Ask speakers to aim for around 3 minutes.

- Allow approximately 5 minutes per speech in your timeline.

While most speakers intend to keep things brief, emotions, stories, and unexpected memories can quickly extend the length of a speech.

Savannah shared an example of a father of the groom whose speech lasted 15 minutes, creating a domino effect that pushed the entire evening behind schedule.

Setting expectations early helps keep the reception flowing smoothly while ensuring guests remain engaged and entertained.

3. Know Who Is Running the Evening After the MC Finishes

During the event, one bride asked a question many couples hadn't considered:

"What happens if our MC finishes before the reception ends?"

It's an important consideration.

Savannah recommends scheduling all major formalities—including speeches, introductions, cake cutting, and dances—before your MC's contracted finish time where possible.

If the evening continues after that point, make sure someone is clearly responsible for guiding guests and communicating what's happening next.

This could be:

- Your venue's event supervisor

- Your maid of honour

- Your best man

- A trusted family member

- A responsible friend

Having a designated person helps maintain flow and prevents confusion as the evening progresses.

4. Your Wedding MC Does More Than Make Announcements

Many couples underestimate the role of a great MC.

An experienced MC doesn't simply introduce speeches or announce formalities. They help guide the entire guest experience throughout the day.

Guests are often busy catching up with family, taking photos, ordering drinks, or moving between spaces. Because of this, important information frequently needs to be communicated more than once.

Savannah explained that key messages should be reinforced throughout the celebration, including:

- During cocktail hour

- Before reception entrances

- Prior to speeches

- Before dances and formalities

- At the conclusion of scheduled events

Clear communication keeps guests informed, reduces confusion, and helps the day feel effortless from beginning to end.
